The origin

This tropical island has ideal conditions for planting coffee crop. Large parts of the island consists of mountainous areas, including the Blue Mountain mountains, which are dominant. Blue Mountains is the perfect blend of mineral-rich soil, heat and rain, and just the right height. With its 2250 meters above sea level, this is one of the highest coffee regions in the world. The constant mist gives the mountains a bluish tint, of which it gets the name Blue Mountain. Here is grown the world's most exclusive coffee beans. But Jamaica is not only harsh mountain areas, but the island also has many stunning white beaches. Blue Mountains consists of around 79,000 hectares of National Park, created to preserve the rainforest. Here you can watch 800 plant species and 200 bird species, many of which are unique to the island. From the beginning there were no coffee bushes in Jamaica. Only in 1728 did the governor Sir Nicholas Lawes get here with cuttings, which turned out to thrive and grow into fine coffee bushes. Farming came running and helped along the way by the Haitian coffee growers, who fled to the island from the revolution 1790th. The Arabica coffee beans is of very high quality and is now a major export industry.

To ensure the quality of the coffee, Jamaica has established a national authority, Jamaica Coffee Industry Board for production monitoring. Blue Mountain beans are grown mainly by small farmers, unlike the large plantation as seen elsewhere in the world. Because of Blue Mountain coffee grown in a relatively small part of the world there are only available in limited quantities. Therefore, it can sometimes be difficult to obtain.
